Our very first project, the contemporary conversion of a medieval barn has been shortlisted for the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2018. The project, completed in June 2017, was recognised for its ability to provide a contemporary barn conversion, whilst retaining the historic interest of the u-shape plan and cob walls. Judges regarded the design as an interesting adaptation of rural architecture that makes good use of building constraints, and commended the design ability to provide a technically sound conversion.
With significant site constraints, including a Scheduled Ancient Monument to the north and a river to the east, set in open countryside, the design was challenging. However the work was undertaken by the contractor with superior ability and skill to ensure our design was realised.
This year saw a high number of quality projects and we are especially pleased that our project was held in such high regard. We look forward to hearing further of the outcome of our award nomination.
